Customize the measurement systems

Customize the units of measurement of the measurement systems

  1. Click the project node.

  2. Click image1 next to MeasurementSystemMap: the MeasurementSystemMap editor opens.

  3. In the From column, select the quantity of interest: the current units of measurement with which to express the selected quantity appear in the columns of the different measurement systems.

  4. In the measurement systems column, select the desired unit of measurement.

Create non-standard units of measurement

  1. Right-click Model, then click New > All > Engineering Unit, then click Engineering Unit Dictionary.

  2. Double-click the just-created object: the unit of measurement editor opens.

  3. To create a new unit of measurement, click image2: a new row appears in the table.

  4. In the Physical quantity column, select the physical quantity of reference for the non-standard unit of measurement: e.g. in the beats per minute quantity, the reference quantity is Hertz.

  5. In the Display name column, set the name of the unit of measurement.

    Note

the name is translatable through LocalizationDictionary (see Manage the translations).

  6. In the Description column, insert the description of the unit of measurement.

    Note

the description is translatable through LocalizationDictionary (see Manage the translations).

  7. In the Slope column, set the conversion coefficient with respect to the value of the standard unit.

  8. In the Intercept column, set any value to add to the reference unit of measurement.

  9. The description of the new unit of measurement appears in the Result column.

Example

To define a non-standard unit of measurement that expresses a beats per minute number, the following values are set:

  • Physical quantity: Frequency

  • Display name: bpm

  • Slope: 60 (seconds in one minute)

  • Intercept: 0

The values determine the result 1 Hz = 60 bpm
